I tend to stay away from “breaking news” mainly because the very term means nobody has a clue what is going on. As a former police officer, and a member of the intelligence community, I am aware of the need for analysis of facts versus immediate emotional reactions in order to make a determination as to a rational course of action. Most individuals capable of critical thinking also realize that getting at least a basic understanding of an event is kind of a key part of forming an opinion on said event. Apparently, based on yesterday’s feeding frenzy over Ohio State, the gun control movement is facing a severe shortage of individuals capable of critical thinking from the top to bottom.
To recap for those who may not be aware, a young 18 year old Somali refugee decided to drive into a crowd at high speed in his Honda Civic, and once he had accomplished that, he began waylaying everyone in sight with a butcher knife. The University sent out both text messages and Tweets regarding an active shooter and for everyone to “Run, Fight, Hide”. This was appropriate as it ensured people took the threat seriously and warned students away from where the assailant was running amok. Police arrived on scene in short order, took the attacker under fire, and stopped the threat by shooting him.
Now here is where the gun control industry started coming off the rails…
News channels picked up the “Active Shooter” story and ran with it, adding in that (at various times) between 7 to 10 people were injured or on the way to the hospital. Vox posted on Twitter “Ohio State University Shooting: What We Know” (based on the article what they knew was not a damn thing). MSNBC and HuffPo went into apoplectic fits. Twitter exploded almost immediately with calls to ban guns, critiques of campus carry (despite OSU being a gun free zone), slamming the NRA and the usual comments along those lines.
Moms Demand Action immediately started Tweeting furiously about kids being shot, GunSense, common sense gun laws and their usual Bloomberg funded agitprop. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, not to be outdone, posted on their Facebook page (taking a cue from Moms Demand in that the dead only count when they are shot) said they were thankful a gun wasn’t used… because those injured and killed aren’t REALLY hurt. Getting run over with a Honda then smashed about the face and head with a butcher knife is cool with them…
Politicians got in on the act, immediately bemoaning those who were shot, calling for more gun control, blaming the NRA… Sheila Jackson Lee Tweeted “Today is yet another was a sad day in our country because of a senseless shooting at an Ohio State University.” Considering the only person shot was the one trying to kill people with his car and a big honking knife… her Tweet might be the most savage comment on the internet… but I digress….
I want to point out the madness, the insanity, the collective losing of s**t by the uninformed and ignorant masses who believe whatever Ladd Everitt and Shannon Watts tell them they should believe..
I am of course referring to the comments and replies to the Facebook and Twitter posts.
Some of the choicer comments from the Moms Demand Facebook post (which they edited out their prior screeching about gunmen, common sense gun safety etc etc etc)
John Asumaa: Gosh, where are all the good guys with guns? What's going wrong, NRA?
It was pointed out OSU was a gun free zone and the good guys, not being criminals, left their guns elsewhere. Those posts were of course deleted and the posters banned.
Another good one was from Christine Arriaga Rivera who said “Another case of people who should not have access to guns misusing them.”
This post ties Sheila Jackson Lee’s Tweet for the most savage thing on the internet. The only people who had guns were the cops, and they misused them by shooting the guy trying to kill people with a butcher knife after he ran them over with his car.
Again- any posts referencing the fact no firearm was used outside of law enforcement were deleted and the posters banned.
Perhaps one of the best was from Lori Burton Admokom who said “The NRA must be so happy again! So sorry for the continued chaos brought about by easy access guns, but ka Ching $$ for you NRA”
I’m thinking that she must have meant the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) since no gun was used, but a car was. Granted trying to get inside a gun control extremist’s head is like trying to juggle a dozen greased weasels but it is the only way to explain that comment. Well… it could be early onset dementia but I’m going to go with Occam’s Razor here and the NRA and NHRA are only one letter apart.
As for the rabid sociopaths who inhabit the CSGV page I’m just going to post one of the saner responses to Ladd’s siren call of “Active Shooter”.
**WARNING STRONG LANGUAGE**
Manuel Herrar: Another white male on a shooting rampage. Business as usual in Trump's AmeriKKKa. #cocksnotglocks
Of course the assailant, as we know, was a Somali Muslim immigrant who had made Facebook postings about killing infidels. I wonder how long it took Mr. Herrar to remove the foot he so firmly wedged into his mouth…
Now of course once these pages began getting bombarded with people speaking the truth about what happened, little facts like the only firearm present was carried by the cop who shot the perp, that gun control doesn’t prevent someone from running you over with a vehicle, that gun free zones don’t stop someone from pretending to be an Uruk-Hai with a butcher knife, that even as the story was breaking (and even if the attacker did have a firearm) nobody had been reported shot, they started walking back their screeching, but the narrative had been set in people’s minds.
It seems nowadays that perception trumps reality and it was on full display today. Even when their ignorance of the facts involving this incident were pointed out, the gun control extremists continued shrieking about shooting victims and gun control.
The gun control industry depends on people like this because, as we have all seen countless times, their narrative cannot stand up to logic, reason or truth.
It is why we cannot rest on our laurels, but need to continue the fight both on a national level and at the grassroots. A lie can circle the world before the truth ties its shoes- and today proved that adage.
