As I became more and more active in the pro 2A arena and began encountering various anti-gun extremist groups on Facebook (and now Twitter @MrDecker1MMAGC) there were a few things that kept cropping up in every exchange. Those things were a complete lack of understanding about current firearm laws (and about the individual’s chosen groups actual goals), rampant hypocrisy, and extreme violence.
By far the most prevalent is ignorance. Based on around 10 days of observation I have noticed that none of the #gunsense adherents have any idea whatsoever when it comes to the 22,000 firearms laws on the books, firearms in general or even what their own organizations that they support believe. Various tweets I have encountered deny the existence of the NICS program, state one can buy machineguns online and have them delivered to your home, that a civilian AR-15 is “too powerful” for a civilian to own and that “gun violence” is at an all-time high. Of course every single one of those assertions is incorrect and the truth can be found quite easily using any search engine on the web. It seems that they choose not to think for themselves and instead rely on Moms Demand, Everytown, and CSGV propaganda. The most recent “trending” example of ignorance has been in regards to the M855 5.56x45mm cartridge. #Gunsense advocates will flatly state it is an armor piercing cartridge when the BATF’s own definitions clearly state that it is not. Then we have those who claim that the various anti-gun groups don’t want to ban guns. It literally takes 8 seconds to type in “Moms Demand ban guns” and come up with a half million examples of them saying they want to ban guns. When it comes to these folks I’m going with them being willfully ignorant. To them #gunsense is a religion and anything that counters the word of their prophets is heresy and not worthy of consideration.
From sheer ignorance we transition into the second most prevalent #gunsense position- that of utter hypocrisy. There are literally thousands of tweets a day with a #gunsense hashtag saying that civilians should not carry guns in public while Shannon Watts the “founder” of Moms Demand has a heavily armed civilian security team with her at all times. Shannon herself pushes the idea that a “Gun Free Zone” sign is enough protection for our children, but when it comes to herself she insists on a bunch of guys with Glock 19s and 15 round mags. They call countering Ms. Watts lies with fact “misogyny” yet have no issues with Shannon’s male meatheads actually assaulting Dana Loesch. They insist they support the Second Amendment at the same time supporting organizations who have stated that banning the civilian ownership of firearms is their goal. They say a Universal Background Check won’t inconvenience firearm owners when most FFL holders, the only ones allowed to run a NICS check, will not do so for liability and BATF Bound Book compliance reasons. They say they're against “gun violence” but openly and enthusiastically advocate that other #gunsense adherents SWAT gun owners at every opportunity. The Communications Director of the CSGV has come out and actually supported this idea. Of course when one points this out to them we transition right into… extreme violence.
As I have stated previously, I have been on Twitter for around a week and a half. In those 10 days or so I have received more threats to my life, and the life of my family, than I did during all my deployments to OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) combined. Many other pro 2A individuals have been subjected to the same or worse. The sheer volume of hate coming from those who have #gunsense, and who supposedly are all about saving lives, borders on the overwhelming. I’ve personally never wished death on anyone outside of the Wahabbists who were taking power drills to little girl’s joints for going to school but these people do every 10 minutes. To act in such a fashion, to incite others to violence in such graphic terms, simply because facts presented by another don’t fit your preconceived worldview borders on the sociopathic. Granted I’ve only had that 10 day window to observe these people, but I have come to believe that they wish for everyone to be disarmed due to the fact that they would not hesitate to kill anyone who disagrees with them. Violent threats seem to be the standard operating procedure and I do not doubt for a minute that they would be more than willing to carry those threats out if given a chance. The definition of projection was written specifically with these folks in mind. This mindset also ties in with the trend amongst anti-gun types to SWAT gun owners, behaviors that have already led to the death of an innocent man in WalMart. Oddly enough the #gunsense crowd has no issues with getting innocent people shot to death via SWATing, but we covered the hypocrisy angle in the last part.
These are #gunsense advocates, and if this is what #gunsense is about, I want no part of it.
