Do you want to prevent mass shootings from taking place on school campuses?
We need legislation to allow teachers with training to concealed carry on campus. Remember the saying: "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun"? Gun control advocates use that saying to assert that we don't stop enough crimes, ignoring the fact that mass shootings are typically in gun free zones, where we are barred from protecting ourselves and others.
Allowing our teachers that volunteer to train and carry firearms would empower a good citizen to stand between our children and outside threats the entire time that they are at school. Those who have survived a school shooting often recognize that it could have been stopped had someone been able to fight back, or at least show resistance. It is deplorable that we live in a world where murderers target schools, churches, and military recruitment centers. However, it will continue to occur until the cowardly criminals who commit these heinous acts are stopped, and it's up to people like legally armed citizens to stop them, since our police officers can't be there all the time.
Training and arming teachers is an intelligent and logical way to protect our children in their schools. In gun-free zones, criminals see an easy target, knowing they cannot be stopped. However, we believe evil people would reconsider if they knew they could likely encounter several armed citizens who would protect the students.
Tightening background checks, magazine capacity limits, and assault weapons bans would do very little to ensure that the "bad guy" didn't get a gun illegally or, even worse, use a more deadly weapon such as a bomb. At least give our children’s protectors a fighting chance! Please ask yourself: is ANY gun control proposal going to protect my child today? Training and arming our teachers would.
Please push for legislation that would at least give our children some protection and help to abolish all gun free zones.
