In lethal force encounters, those who are involved are often witness to an aspect of human physiology that seems kind of odd, especially when one’s exposure to the effects of a knife or gunshot wound come from TV or movies. That aspect is the length of time from a penetrating wound being delivered to a major organ (outside of the brain) and the aggressor stopping hostile action, and there is a saying associated with it. The first time I heard it myself was in a low rent district of Sadr City in 2004 uttered by a stereotypical Sergeant Major who had just put a 3 round burst from his M4 into an insurgent’s center of mass that was still in the fight. That saying was
“He’s dead, he just don’t know it yet”
Recent history has shown that gun control is dead, they just don’t know it yet. Despite Michael Bloomberg buying politicians left and right and dumping millions upon millions of dollars to push his NYC billionaire 1% agenda, gun control is dead. Despite Bloomberg hiring Shannon Watts, the former head of Monsanto’s global Public Relations division, to head his astroturf “Moms Demand Action” group, gun control is dead. Despite (or perhaps because of) Ladd Everitt and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence urging its followers to abuse the 911 system and ensure people exercising rights they do not like get SWATed to death, gun control is dead. They just don't know it yet.
Have you seen the pitiful turnouts at gun control events? They need trick photography using skewed perspectives in order to seem even marginally relevant. Meanwhile a local protest against the NY (un)SAFE Act drew crowds so large, photographers needed to get onto the roofs of the surrounding 8 story buildings to capture less than half of the crowd on film. GunSenseVT, a Vermont based organization, even flat out stole a gun rights rally photo and attempted to claim it was a picture of their turnout (without editing out the Gadsen flags and pro 2A placards).
Have you noticed the claims and “facts” (quotation marks don’t even begin to cover the outright nonsense they spew but this IS a family friendly publication) of the gun control crowd are getting more and more strident lately? Over the past two years, as Moms Demand and Bloomberg have been handed setback over setback, as individual freedoms and liberties have encroached the most stalwart gun control states and cities, they have tossed aside any pretention of civility. Now they screech to the heavens to their dwindling number of supporters like banshees on a month long meth binge out of sheer desperation. Actually at this point I believe actual banshees are covering their ears and calling the police to report the racket next door.
This is because they know they are losing the battle. More and more Americans, from the US Air Force who issued a FRAGO allowing USAF personnel to carry personally owned firearms on base, to the LAPD who recently said citizens should arm themselves as the police cannot be there in time to prevent attacks, are waking up and realizing that personal safety and defense is PERSONAL. It is an individual choice, it is in an individual freedom, it is an individual liberty, and it is an individual responsibility to protect yourself and your family with the best tool mankind has invented for ending a violent encounter.
Even the Governor of Virginia realized this when the State Legislature began proceedings to remove his heavily armed bodyguards. Just like Michael Bloomberg and Shannon Watts, he was fond of saying “Good guys with guns don’t stop bad guys with guns”… from behind a phalanx of guys with guns. Unlike Mr. Bloomberg and Ms. Watts, Governor McAuliffe has a modicum of common sense and the ability to feel shame, realized he was being a hypocrite and backed off his decision to end reciprocity because he felt he needed his “good guys with guns”.
Gun control is dead, it just doesn’t know it yet.
This does not mean we can rest on our laurels and forget that people like Bloomberg, Watts and Everitt are spreading their deadly message via social media. It does not mean we can ignore the Monsanto Mommy lying to her followers. It does not mean we can forget that Michael Bloomberg is out there right now buying politicians left and right. It doesn’t mean that we can ignore Ladd Everitts calls for his followers to commit ever increasing acts of violence against us.
Quite the contrary, now is the time for the final push. Now is the time we should all be standing up and making more noise than ever before. Now is the time to ensure that they are relegated to the trash heap of history. Now is the time to reach out to people who are on the fence, who have never fired a gun, and bring them to the range and introduce them to the shooting sports. Now is the time to organize youth rifle leagues and bring back civilian marksmanship programs…
Because gun control is dead, but it doesn’t know it yet.
