There's a trend we have heard much about over the past few years, safe spaces.
As a parent, it is my obligation to keep my children safe. My life is devoted to keeping them out of danger.
When your children are young, they are essentially with you all of the time. It is a parent’s primary job to ensure that child’s space is safe. As they grow in their independence, there are times when they are no longer under our roof of protection. That is when we, as parents, must teach them how to effectively make their own space safe. We must teach them how to protect and defend themselves from those who have absolutely no regard for their life, let alone an ounce of respect for a sticker on a door, or the laws already on the books which state that murder, attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, and the like, are illegal.
As our children approach college we are entrusting the school to either pick up where we've left off in keeping them protected while in our care, or simply allow them to protect themselves via nationwide campus carry.
To deprive them of both, on the basis of people's feelings, is an outrageous travesty.
Why should their lives be placed in jeopardy on the assumption that criminals will obey laws? Why should their lives be placed in jeopardy because someone else did not tech their child how to protect themselves?
Our children are our future. Their lives are worth protecting.
It is time to make sure they are able to be their own safe space by providing their own personal security with the ability to carry concealed on campus.
