On this day in 2001, America experienced the opening shots of a war. This was the first enemy action on US soil in over 50 years and the salvo fired by jihadi extremists took more lives than the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. I was in uniform, wearing a badge and a sidearm that day. I was a cop at an airport 700 miles away from the World Trade Center, 450 miles away from the Pentagon, 500 miles away from Shanksville PA… but I knew my brothers and sisters would be running into those buildings, into that burning farmer's field, in an effort to render aid to the injured, to save lives even at the cost of their own.
One of those officers was PO Walter Weaver.
Officer Weaver ran INTO the WTC while everyone else was running away. He ran into the maelstrom of fire, smoke, blood and death not because it was his job but because it was who he WAS.
I used the past tense because PO Walter Weaver, like many of his brothers and sisters that day, did not make it out of the building. He laid down his life so that others may live. On his hip during his final moments with us was a S&W Model 642 Centennial, a small .38 revolver popular with plainclothes officers and detectives.
While Officer Weaver did not make it out of the WTC, his sidearm did. Investigators traced the serial number of the recovered heavily damaged revolver and returned it to Officer Weaver’s family. The Weavers in turn donated it to the NRA museum, so it would be preserved for generations to come as a symbol and a tribute to ALL the men & women who have fallen in the line of duty. This revolver and what it symbolizes is as meaningful to the law enforcement community as the Battlefield Cross is to the military (boots/rifle/helmet).
It is this memorial to all the NYPD officers who fell that day, who never made it out, who have since died from the toxins they were exposed to and inhaled as they worked 24 hours a day in the burning pile, that Shannon Watts has chosen to attack today.
HOW DARE SHE?
While I usually maintain my professional demeanor and manage to restrict myself from using certain language as 1MMAGC is a family oriented site and this is a family oriented blog, I want her to hear this message loud and clear.
Who do you think you are to mock and malign a memorial to a fallen police officer on 9-11? What is next up for you and your demented followers? Perhaps mocking sailors in Hawaii on December 7th? Maybe denigrating soldiers mourning around a Battlefield Cross? Why not just bust out some neon “God Hates Fags” signs and show up at officer’s funerals?
Do you have no decency Shannon? Do you have no empathy? Do you have no soul?
How much of Bloomberg’s money did it take for you to sell every shred of humanity you had left to Uncle Mike? There isn’t any use at this point denying it either because after today’s display I, and every other officer who knew that our brothers were going to die that day, no longer consider you human. You are nothing more than an animated walking shell of what used to be a human, who has sold her dignity and what was left of her blackened, evil soul to her corporate master.
I say again Shannon, on behalf of cops everywhere….
